CareHaven is an independent, for-profit software company building private apps for families caring for someone with complex needs — autism, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, dementia, and more. Its first app, also called CareHaven, keeps medications, appointments, patterns, and caregiver handoffs in one calm place. Your care log is encrypted so that only you — and the people you invite into your circle — can read it. No account, no ads, no data resale. Two further apps are in development: Groundwork (a working title), an IEP and 504 advocacy tool for parents, and ChoreLight, a chores app to help a child build independence. Founded by a Birmingham security professional who built the first app for his own family. CareHaven for iPhone is in free beta at carehaven.org/beta; Groundwork and ChoreLight are not yet available to install and have no announced release date.

The company: CareHaven LLC, an independent, founder-owned software company in Birmingham, Alabama. It is a for-profit company, not a nonprofit, and does not accept donations.
The apps: CareHaven (the care app, in free beta), Groundwork (IEP and 504 advocacy, in development — "Groundwork" is a working title), and ChoreLight (chores and independence for kids, in development). Only CareHaven is currently installable, and the other two have no announced release date.
What it is: a private app for caregivers that holds the whole care picture — medications, appointments, behaviors, patterns, and caregiver handoffs — in one calm place.
Who it's for: caregivers of people with autism, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, dementia, and other complex or medical needs — from a young child to an aging parent.
Privacy: your care log is encrypted so that only you — and the people you invite into your circle — can read it. No account, no ads, no data resale. Sync is optional and off by default, and stays encrypted end to end when you turn it on.
Signature features: pattern detection across weeks, class-level medication cautions that prompt the right question for a prescriber (not a clinical interaction check — it doesn't diagnose interactions or catch everything), a one-tap private handoff for a sitter or co-parent, and whole-household profiles.
Platform: iPhone (iOS 17+), with iPad and Apple Watch companions.
Status: currently in free private beta on TestFlight; App Store launch to follow.

Origin: built by the founder for his own family, after nothing on the market fit.

Founder

Shawn Sharp

Founder & developer, CareHaven

Shawn Sharp is a Birmingham-based security professional and University of Alabama at Birmingham graduate (BS and MBA). After his own family spent years coordinating complex care for their son — the medications, the specialists, the appointments, and the constant work of remembering it all — he couldn't find a tool that fit. So he built one. His background in security shaped CareHaven's defining choice: every entry is encrypted so that only he and his family can read it, with no account and no central database anyone could read. CareHaven is the app he wishes his family had from the start.
