Custom trackers
CareHaven tracks a lot right out of the box — feedings, sleep, seizures, behavior, mood, and more. But every family runs into something the app hasn't thought of yet: nosebleeds, a hydration goal, a stim you're watching, a mood dip that doesn't fit any existing log. Custom trackers let you build your own tracker for exactly that, in a few taps — and once it exists, it works like any built-in log: it lands on your timeline, it's searchable, and it's part of your recap. What a custom tracker is
Every custom tracker has a name, an icon, a color, and a shape. The shape is what decides what actually gets logged each time — a number, a count, a rating, and so on — so you're never stuck filling in fields that don't fit what you're actually watching.
Creating a tracker
Tap: Main Menu (bottom left) → Track → Custom trackers → New tracker — or + (bottom center) → Custom tracker → New tracker.
Give it a name, choose a shape (see below), and pick an icon and a color from CareHaven's set so it sits right alongside your other logs. Choose Measure a number and you'll also set the unit — ounces, minutes, degrees, whatever fits. There's also a Show in iPhone search toggle, off unless you turn it on — see Finding a tracker or entry below for what it does. Tap Save.
Creating a brand-new tracker is part of CareHaven Family. Logging and viewing trackers you already have — including ones a Family organizer has shared with you — stays free on every plan; only defining a new one needs Family. See Plans — Free, Plus, and Family.
Renaming a tracker, or giving it a new icon or color, doesn't need Family either. Open it from the Custom trackers list and tap Edit — that stays open to everyone, including a co-caregiver on a lapsed or lower plan who already has trackers shared with them.
Choosing what you're tracking (the shapes)
- Count an event — a running tally you tap up. Good for anything you're simply counting: nosebleeds, meltdown episodes, a stim.
- Measure a number — a number with a unit you set. Good for anything with a real quantity behind it, like ounces of water or minutes of screen time.
- Rate 1–5 — a quick five-point scale you tap. Good for something you're gauging rather than counting, like how rough a mood dip felt.
- Yes / No — a three-way answer: Yes, No, or Unknown. Unknown is there on purpose — "I wasn't there to see it" is a real, honest answer, not a guess.
- Free note — just a text field. Good for something that doesn't reduce to a number, a scale, or a yes/no.
- Checklist — a list of items you check off each time you log. Add at least one item when you set it up — CareHaven needs one before it'll let you save — then logging shows the whole list so you can tap off whichever ones applied that time. Good for a routine or a set of things you're watching together, like the steps of a bedtime routine or what's in a go-bag; your tracker's own history and your weekly recap read it as how many items got checked off out of the total, so you can see how much of the list is getting covered.
All six shapes above are ready to use.
Logging an entry
Open the tracker from your Custom trackers list, then tap + on its own page. Fill in the field for its shape, add a note if it helps, adjust the time if you're logging after the fact, and tap Save. To save you a step, CareHaven quietly pre-fills a new entry with whatever you logged last time — you only need to change what's different.
Tap any past entry to see it in full or edit it, or swipe left on the list to delete it.
Where your entries show up
Every entry lands on your day's timeline, right alongside your built-in logs. The tracker's own page keeps its complete history too, newest first, so you can look back over everything you've logged for it without digging through the timeline.
Finding a tracker or entry
Custom trackers and their entries are part of Search & Ask CareHaven like everything else you log — type a tracker's name or a word from a note and it turns up.
Your iPhone's own Spotlight search stays out of it by default. Turn on Show in iPhone search when you create or edit a tracker if you want that one to be Spotlight-findable — trackers are opted in one at a time. Even then, only the tracker's name, who it's for, and a date ever show up there. What you log never does — no note, no logged value, no individual entry.
Backups and sharing
Custom trackers ride along with everything else. They're included in your encrypted backups, and if you invite a co-caregiver to a person, your custom trackers travel inside the Today's Care section you choose to share — the same one that carries feedings, sleep, and behavior logs.
In your recap and pattern insights
Custom-tracker activity is folded into your weekly recap and pattern insights alongside everything else you log — and tracker names get the same best-effort scrub of identifying details that protects the rest of what you write before anything is used to help write those summaries. See Smart help (Apple Intelligence).
